Inflatable Group Evaluation

In the beginning of the inflatables project things weren't turning out so well because we were trying to make things way more complicated than the structure needed to be, but in the end things went really well. We felt pretty good about the shower stall and the fact that it could hold more than 4 people but not a lot of people wanted to enter it (a few did but not a lot) and even though most people didn't enter the shower everyone that walked by wanted to draw on it which made it a big hit we thought. The wind was a big problem because even though we had things to weigh down the shower, if there was a big gust of wind the structure would try to fall over. I liked my performance piece for the shower because it was nice to sleep, which is something we all really needed. In the end we ended up not using a lot of energy because we used a small fan instead of leaf blowers to inflate the shower.

Big Idea Proposals

1.     1. Video – inspired by Pipiloti Rist. Explore different interpretations of a line of a song.
2.
Dress in all white and lay next to containers of various colors of finger paints. Have sign encouraging class to paint on me. After a while, get up suddenly and seem frustrated. Attempt to repaint everything white but realize its impossible. It represents how everyone you encounter in life will affect you. I can change the ending.

3.     Build a sculpture of a woman made from feminine objects used throughout different stages of a woman’s life

4.     Series of life size pictures imitating the “You must be this tall to ride” signs at theme parks, but they tell women exactly what they have to look like (i.e. “You must be this skinny,” “You must have this bra size” etc.)

5.     A series of pictures of me doing socially unacceptable things in public places (inspired by my feminist pictures in walmart)

6.     A video of me in a white dress with some sort of fragile object representing my religious faith. I look happy with it in the beginning but people (friends that help me) with come by and mark my dress with black paint or ink and I will struggle against them at first but throw the object and break it. I will abandon the shattered mess to join my group of friends where I will act like I’m having fun but then end up miserable. The whole video will represent where I stand in my religious views.

7.     A series of photos of myself or other girls naked, censored by words or sentences like “Is this art?” etc.
